Reasonable costing Cam replacement

I am looking for recommendations on a new cam for my 460. The engine came out of a 79 Lincoln and will be put in my 76 F100 Shortbed. I'm not building a truck to pull anything. I am researching for something that would be a good compromise between performance and economy.

Reasonable costing Cam replacement

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-May-02 AT 02:35 AM (EST)]Is a stock replacement camshaft out of the question for you then? You can get a stock replacement Melling camshaft with lifters for not much over a $110.00 at Autozone.

Reasonable costing Cam replacement

hey man, have you looked at ford motorsport? they have a cam part number M-6250-A460. it is a little bigger than stock, 216/220 degrees duration at .050 and lift .493"/.502" the cam is 99.95 from ford, but you could probably get it cheaper at a performance shop or even some dealerships. i know t&a motorsports in florida sells most of their ford motorsport stuff about 80% of list price, so you may want to try them. this cam has a good idle, a hint of a lope to it, and a good powerband. it is the cam i have in my engine(the engine is sitting on a test stand right now so i cant tell you power, but it does sound good). you may also try crane or comp cams, call their tech lines and ask them what size cam they would recommend. and remember, try to stay away from big cams with a relatively stock motor. and be realistic with the tech people, it will save you from driving around wishing you had gone with a different cam. good luck and hope this helps
