Guys on my 92 F-150 302EFI motor how can I tell if I have a roller cam in my truck? Did all of the 92-96 trucks have roller cams in the motors? I ask this because I am wanting to upgrade my trucks cam for a SD comp cam.
It was in 91 or 92 that Ford went to roller cams in the F150s. These cams still used the old 302 firing order. In 94 when the F150s went to Mass Air, they changed the firing order to the 302 HO. Hope this helps.
The 92-93 E & F 150's 5.0 used the "base" hyd roller. The 94-up's got the better F4TE cam. Want to upgrade roller cams, use Comp's 35-308-8. Also known as the 266HR.
Could I upgrade to the Comp's 35-308-8 cam even if I have the base hydraulic roller cam Baddad?
Yea, that one too. The SD cams need a 114* LSA so as not to screw with the computer, or so I've read. I've never done one. All my 5.0 based motors are carbed. The 114* cams also work great with carbs too.
Yea, with a 92, I'd cam it up. The "base" roller they came with ain't nothing to write home about. Sub .400 lift and less than 250* durations. The 94-up F4TE cam was vastly improved over it. The HP difference in the two cams is about 20-30 hp. I think the ratings went from 175-185 in 92 to 200-210 in 94.
