Looking for some help! I have used the Xcal programmer many times before but now when I try to use the xcal I get a TBC fail on my dash. When I unplug the SCT it goes away and the truck is fine. Any ideas. I plugged in a regular code reader and it operated properly.
i don't have a tuner. but i do have a cool down timer that keeps power to the ficm. to keep engine running until a certain temp is reached and i will always get several faults on the dash once the key has been removed and the engine is still running, including the tbc fault. which is something to do with the tow brake controller. I think. IMHO ,i wouldn't worry about it.

I've had this occur to me a couple of times now, one time was pretty alarming. TBC is trailer Brake Controller. Both times it was resolved, by unplugging and re-plugging in the xcal2 and it would eventually work. I'm not sure why I got the fault, but it has happened to me on 2 occasions. The one occasion, I was in the tractor supply parking lot the day before christmas, had my son with me and was doing a little last minute shopping. I wanted to download my xtreme tune, and so I initiated the process. Erasing Module............. TBC fault. Now I sit with no stock tune, no any tune and the truck wouldn't do anything. I tried several times before getting it to "return to stock". The other time I got the TBC fault was a non-issue really, it woulnd't do anything, when I plugged in the unit it indicated the fault and wouldn't do anything.
I'll be watching this thread to see if anybody else has insight into why this happens.
After several attempts I can get the SCT to work but something is going on, I spoke to SCT and they are not sure either. I am going to wait and see if more people post on this topic before I send the programmer back to SCT for repair.
I'm getting this message on my dash too. The truck has a difficult time starting for some reason and while cranking it for a period of time the message comes up. I don't know if this has anything to do with my truck not wanting to start. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Terry
I believe it does! I had a hard time starting (slowly got worse and worse)and it turned out to be the HPOP failure. I had the HPOP fixed and no longer have the TBC failure!
Thanks for the reply chuck, I've only had this 05 f250 6.0L for a year now with only 70k miles on it, will the HPOP fix be covered under the 100k warranty?
Yes! mine has 73,000 miles and it was covered with a $100 dollar deductable. The truck starts very quickly now and just to let you know if it is not fixed soon it will leave you stranded. If you do a search on this web site Under HPOP you will see that this is a common problem.
