help!!
my expedition is making a clicking buzzing noise behind the dash and the dash lights along with the outside lights flash and flicker in sink with the buzzing and clicking.
Do you have a cracked windshield? I hear a lot of electrical problems from a bad seal in the front window thus getting water on the GEM unit. My window had a bad seal and was causing the heater fan to stay on even after pulling the key out! New window... problem fixed.
I'm not sure but it is under the hood. It might not even be related. I just know my electrial gremlins were a result of water getting on the GEM unit form a leaky front window.
I had the GEM problem too in my 97, it is on the driverside near the floor at the firewall (in near all the wiring, blocks, brake pedal etc.) Its been a long time so I may be thinking of another vehicle but I'm pretty sure thats the location. When they fixed mine the dealer blamed it on people plowing with thier window down or famous leaky windshield seal.
from what i'm seeing it looks like a moisture problem. does any body know where the sunroof drains might come out at?
once in a while i get some water out of the o !@#@ handle on the drivers side and that leads me to belive that the tubes are plugged or come un done in the sun roof..
They drain drown the windhield pillar posts, if unplugged or leaking it can show up in the passenger compartment, but not likely in the door itself, as it is separated. i would suspect leaking 'catswiskers' aka the rubber seal that seals the window as it goes up and down.
I agree the GEM is on the driver side, under the dash and can be accessed from underneath.
Oh- then it is most likely a leaking sunroof tube. Not too bad a job in a warm garage, but the headliner has to be at least partially removed. I have not removed my EXP but have done it on a Lincoln Mark VIII and a T-Bird not a bad job but not a 15 min quick either. I siliconed the tube back on . Both vehicles the tube had come completely off on the driver side.
My 2000 had the same leak. I learned how to fix it on this forum. Open the sun roof and get an air hose out with the sprayer type trigger end on it. There are drain holes in each front corner of the sun roof tray. Poke the air hose down there and spray the mildew out. It could be plugged with all sorts of crap. Pour water through them when done and make sure the water comes out on the floor under the running boards. If the water doesn't flow all the way through then the tube is off like fratmandu said.
