The lights come on. There is a lot of buzzing and clicking. The batteries are fully charged. When I get under the hood I noticed that the back solenoid (the one that sits lower and closer to the firewall) clicking massivly bad. The dash seems to reset itself every couple of seconds. Could this be the dreaded craptastic Ford solenoid problem?
1. Now nothing happens when trying to crank it.
2. The voltage is 10.93 on one bat and 10.23 on the other. It drops a volt after trying to crank it.
The relay in the middle far left is clicking like a mad man. I trading it out with another couple of relays and they all clicked as bad. What ever that relay is feeding is the prob, I think, i just don't know what that is.
There is your problem, got to have more than that to crank one of these things. Around 11volts to keep PCM powered. Either your batteries are shot or you are not charging them.
I've put them on a speed charger and they just lost more power. The cables and connections are clean and the Alt. is less than a year old. Anything else you can think of? I know that the truck has 2 bats...is there a special way that I need to hook them up for charging? I have jumped it before by just hooking (-) to one bat and (+) to the other... (The bat are on the same side.)
I think you are due two new batteries. If the are not accepting a charge, chances are they are bad. You can hook the charger up to one battery and it should charge both.
Take the batteries off and take them to autozone to have them test them. They'll charge them and test them, it takes a few hrs. If the batteries are bad they'll tell you then. With the batteries fully charged you can look for your power drain very easily.
OK yea...........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............. Trickle charge the bats last night. Bats are at 13.9 in both of them. Turned the keys to "wait to start" and the truck starts the clicking under the dash in the relays and such. All the guages bounce all the way to the right then all the way back to the left. Again the bats are full and kept a charge. Absolutely no starty! Me getting pissy!!!
Does anyone know a good Diesel tech in Farmington New Mexico?
You have got to check the batteries with a load on them. A bad set while show high voltage until the first load is placed on it. A bad or weak set will discharge instantly. Go out and check your voltage while all the blinking and buzzing is happening, I bet you have less than 10.5 volts.

Reason: Corrected errors due to phone post.
Smart money is that your batteries are shot. Like Barry said, they might charge up but the minute you put them under a load, they will discharge to the point of no start. FWIW, the gauges pegging out is the result of you unhooking power to the truck - completely normal, has nothing to do with the condition of the batteries.
