ive decided im finally going to get some lockers when i re-gear my truck in the coming month. i found a nice prce on lock-right lockers through my work and they end up being about $300 a piece with my discount.
im planning on getting a front AND rear locker, but im wondering if im going to run into any sort of driveability problems on-road. the truck isnt my DD anymore, but it does see a fair amount of asphalt before and after wheeling trips.
the truck is a 97 f350 with dana 60 up front, sterling 10.25 in the back, and the gears will be 5.13's.
im also wondering if my axles are 30 or 35 spline. if im right, theyre 35's arent they? it doesnt hurt to ask. id hate to buy the wrong stuff. thanks for the help as always!
Id go with a Detroit out back and lockright or similar up front. $300 for a LS is a pretty good deal. The front D60 is 35spline and the 10.25 sterling is also 35spline.
Someone used to make a weird looking spider gear that had 2 flat sides and two with teeth to mesh the side gears. No need to weld with them. If you weld the fronts, be sure to never drive with your fingers, hands, arms anywhere down in the wheel between the spokes---you will da-- (darn) sure lose them! Welding will do the traction thing, but if you dont like it, you are up a certain creek--------. Cut back on the premium beverages and get some lockers
I'd think about welding the rear or go with a detroit for strength, and the lock right would be ok up front, but they say they won't warrentte anything over about a 33" tire, so 44s? But it should handle them(in other words, something else will break before it will).
your going to install them yourself then it will only be 1800 in parts. i believe sterling is covered.. but welding is ok for OFFROAD ONLY! i did it to my stearling and was tearing the he// out of my swampers on the way to and from the trail.. so i am giving that axle away now.. and am running a d70u with a powerlock, and that will be replaced (since it sucks) with a ARB in the future.. i run a ARB in the front axle and its great to have a truck that steers offroad. hit the switch and it steers.. no wheel atacking you all the time... ive had almost all lockers, and by far ARB has been the best so far. worth it in my opinion. and im super cheap.

hahaha i got 44" boggers now! them tires aint the best but they got me all over moutains and through rivers and very deep swamps here in alaska. they aint boggers but they are better then bfg mudds. that was my first set of swampers, i bought them when they first came out, i didnt know better at the time. but i had bfgs before that, and cant complain about how they pwerformed to much really.
that is a honest real world, i have used the tires opinion, not a guess like most people do, would i buy them again.. probably not.

besides wouldnt the best person to ask about locker advice be the one with the least traction? by the way my rig is driven to the trail and i have just taken it off daily driver status last fall.. thats why i ordered 44" boggers
