i thought about welding the rear, but i know ill kick myself when my rear tires are bald and i dont have the $$ to replace them.

i looked at ARB air lockers, but 800 for just the locker and no compressor is waaaaaaaay out of my budget.

im having the lockers put in the same time as my ring and pinion, which is being professionally done, so me doing it myself is out of the question. plus i dont have the right tools.

so are you guys saying that with a lock-right out front, i will have turning troubles when off road? maybe ill just put the locker in the rear and leave the front as is. i dont do alot of hardcore trails, i just like to kick around in the mud. and i have had the truck in some tight places both on and off road, and it turns like a bus as it is. i can always add an air locker out front later is my wallet allows, right? i might go that route.

5.13's = 38's going to 44's eventually, btw.

with 5.13s dont waste your time with 38s. Go straight to 44s or 40s at minimum. With 38s your engine will be singing at close to 3000rpms. Now normally Id rather be on the high side of a rpm band that the lower (ie I have 4.56s and 38s and thats not low enough for me but I had a reason otherwise Id want 4.88s) 5.13s and 38s are just too low IMHO.

HA
I say "dont waste your time with 38s" like they are some wimpy 235-65-15s

The only truck I knew had 5.somthing gears with 38s was a 4cyl toyota.

Ivan and Pro both had 5.13s and 44s and they would also suggest a lower gear ratio than normally used...they both had hella motors though.

my motor is basically stock. and its only a 351, not a 460. and 40's are the next upgrade after the gears my 38's are kinda worn out.

i asked and asked and asked, both here and other forums, AND at a company that makes and installs ring and pinions, and i even did the gear conversions with that math problem, and everywhere i looked told me that 5.13's would not be enough for 44's.
