If its a build date of 2001 or newer, then it has Powdered metal rods for sure. The cutoff date was phased in somewhere between early september and late november of engine year 2000. look on the front of the driver's valve cover to find the build date. No you don't need a valve spring kit until youre at 40-45+ PSI of boost. The actual manifold (boost) pressure pushing on the backside of the valve has enough force to possibly float a valve or prevent the valve from closing completely at higher RPMs when it's opening and closing very rapidly, so you need increased spring pressure to make the valve react like it should. I'm going with Comp Cams 910 springs when i do.
