F-250tuff - 900 rpm seems a little high for a regular idle speed? Is that stock?
LVTitan - 25minutes is how long I let mine idle for up here in the (-10 to -40C) frigid temps of northern Alberta Canada. How cold can cold be in Vegas? Today it’s a Balmy -29C.
Well it is probably best to turn off the engine if all its going to do is sit there for a while which I do. Burning the fuel is not worth it. At the race track when I need truck power it is really nice for it to tach up and have that option. Now that these guys told me how to get the idle up mod done, it is sooooo nice in the cold morning. The truck used to tach up and only last a little while then tach down after a few minutes...the truck was still cold. Now I fire it up with the gold package, walk out there after ten minutes and flip the upfitter switch....watch it tach up and warm up really fast! Its awesome!
If you have the gold package, why not hook up the SEIC to aux. 2, then you don't have to walk out, you can "idle up" remotely as well.
Here's the pin out info for wiring the idle up to the Gen2 Gold Package rear defrost output.
on the relay:
pin 30 to PTO Orange wire
pin 85 to gold module rear defrost output (blue/white coming off module)
pin 86&87 to 12v (white/blue) on truck above the accelerator pedal.
you can still run the idle up off of a toggle switch for manual on/off, I used the white/blue above pedal and ran through a toggle switch to the PTO orange wire. Tap pin 30 AFTER the toggle switch.
Once hooked up, remote start the truck, then hit the start button on the fob to activate hi idle, hit start button again to kill hi idle or hold start button to shut off engine. Using the rear defrost output from the module will only allow the hi idle to run (remotely) for no more then 20 minutes.

it's not so much a matter of temperature that determines my idle time.... my remote start will "time out" after 25minutes if i haven't gotten in and driven off. so i usually start it when i first wake up, then i do my morning routine. if it shuts off before i'm ready to go it's no big deal, it's not going to cool off that quick so even if it takes me half hour or more to get ready, when i go outside to start it it will be warm already and fire right up...

Yes, that is how high it always goes after 2 to 3 minutes after I start it up on a cold morning. As soon as I touch the brake pedal, it drops back to normal idle.
the oil temperature sensor tells the computer when to idle up, for the guys that say their truck idles up automatically upon startup. I think another benefit of using the purple/orange wire and manually idling up is not to have the injectors running on just barely enough fuel/oil to keep them running. Opening up the fuel system is so much better for it.
