There are two ways to wire up the high idle mod. The one that is more frequently shown uses the PTO and another uses BCP (Battery Charge Protect). I definately prefer the BCP as it'll raise the RPMs above it's normal 1200RPMs if it senses batt voltage getting low...then it'll raise it to the proper RPM to maintain charge. The BCP circuit is the one used on Emergency vehicles to keep batt charge up while idling, much better/useful than PTO imho. There are plenty of write-ups on using the BCP circuit...you just tap a diff color wire. Best of luck.
Save the upfitter switches and put a factory remote start package in, then you can remotely idle up with your key fob! I also wired in a seperate switch just below the headlight switch to manually idle up. Remote start, Keyless entry, Security sytem, remote idle up plus 1 more option to control remotely....don't know what though yet.

you can control your idle speed with your keyfob ??
i saw a thread on either ford-trucks.com or diesel garage just yesterday about this , and someone on there said they had a 6speed and a high idle mod, so it can be done

I have done it to my 05 and I used the purple wire with green tracer. It works wonders in cold weather. The truck will idle up on its own when the motor is cold with service brake on and trans in neutral. I personally just don't idle it for long periods of time. Fuel is just too expensive.

Yes, the factory gold package has 2 auxillary functions on the system. A relay is required to get it to run the hi-idle. It can be activated remotely with the key fob when the vehicle is in remote start and hi-idle will be on for 20 minutes or until you turn it off with the key fob or will shut off when taken out of remote start by getting in and putting key in ignition.
I don't mean to ask a dumb question but how long is extended idle? 5, 10 15,30 60 minutes? How high does the engine need to idle to prevent wet stacking? Thanks
if you shut down after extended slow idle in cold weather particularily if you don't drive it after idling, it is possible to bend one or more pushrods. What happens is that the creosote formed by idling coats the valve stems its fine as long as everything is warm and still moving, but when you stop it kind of sets up then when you restart your valves may not return fast enough the pushrod goes slack and knock knock knock. other than wasting fuel an hour here or there probably isn't fatal however oil pressure will be minimal. idled up shut go almost forever, every hour you run is still an hour closer to oil changes, engine overhaul etc.
Well it is probably best to turn off the engine if all its going to do is sit there for a while which I do. Burning the fuel is not worth it. At the race track when I need truck power it is really nice for it to tach up and have that option. Now that these guys told me how to get the idle up mod done, it is sooooo nice in the cold morning. The truck used to tach up and only last a little while then tach down after a few minutes...the truck was still cold. Now I fire it up with the gold package, walk out there after ten minutes and flip the upfitter switch....watch it tach up and warm up really fast! Its awesome!

seems to me i always hear that 10-15minutes is about as long as you should idle it w/out the hi idle mod. the factory cold weather idle is around 1100rpm, but still not sufficient i've been told. i believe the hi idle mod bumps it around 1800rpm. i'm not sure , i dont have the hi idle mod done to my truck. I idle mine almost every morning for about 25minutes before i drive it (when it's cold outside)
