i have a problem.... i cant listen to music in my truck when im braking or at idle at a stop light because it shuts my radio off, and if i leave it off sometimes my blinkers will slow waaayyy down and somtimes not run at all, my truck sits every winter and i think that is hard on stuff and generated this problem. could it be a bad ground connection on my alternator or maybe a bad batter?(it hold a charge fine) or possibly even a bad solenoid. any help with this problem would be greatly appriciated i just dont like the electrical part of this problem. can any help with finding a test to check each component and find the problem. Thanks Darren
no i havent changed the idle on the truck, it used to run fine, and every once and a while it will still cut out or shut off when at a runnign rpm, also my lights dim to an almost off state when stopped or not on the gas enough. it never did this when i put it away last fall
replaced voltage regulator today and got the alternator checked and it passed replaced plug wires too i am sooo lost here cant think of anything else other than a short and those arent fun to find
well keep in mind that most ford alternators won't start producing power until 900 rpms are reached anything less and it stops output try adjusting the idle and see if it helps and what year truck is this.
truck is 69 but has an 83 460 in it ill try raising idle but it used to be fine all the same settings so ill look for that fried wire between the starter relay
ill try raising idle but it used to be fine all the same settings
If you do not find a wiring problem, go ahead and see if the idle is at spec for a 83 460. Sitting over the winter, the carb can varnish up causing the idle to be off.
i just had the same problem in my 85 f150. whenever you use the power windowes, brakes,or any power accessory the radio goes out. it ended up for me bein a bad power wire from the fusebox and a poor ground. once i replaced the wire to fuse box and ground with 12 gauge wire it cured the problem. and this is a 180 watt pioneer cd deck. hope this helps
