Im trying to put a 460 in a 79 f-350 4x4.The pump is hitting the steering box.Is L&L my only choice for a bracket or can someone help me here?Im using the brackets off a 77 f-150 with a factory 460 with a.c.
I had the same prob. in my 79 250. I modified a 351 setup to work mounting it higher temporaily. My freind has a setup of a lincoln 460 with the metal canister pump and that mounts up high to clear the box. Im looking for one myself but am unsure if you could use the air may need everything off the right engine.
Good Luck Andy
I am having the same problem. I good meaning friend gave me a bracket that he said was for a 460 but it was for a 400, now I must try to modify it or try to find a proper non a/c ps bracket Eric
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Jul-02 AT 01:03 AM (EST)]I used brackets from a 460 that came from a 79 E-250 van and it sets the pump and alternator high with no clearance problems. I had to change over to the saginaw steering pump though. Thats the "metal canister" one mentioned above. Just had NAPA make me a custom high pressure hose and I was good to go.
I used '73 Lincoln acessories, including the A/C. I have about 3/4" clearance between the p/s pulley and the steering box, but use L&L motor mounts, so I'm not worried about contact being caused by a broken mount. Before I went to L&L mounts, I was breaking stock F250 mounts and have some nice grooves on the steering box. But this is a Bronco, not an F series.
Yep onetonford in the 150 or bronco you can use the darn 351m ps bracket with no probs. My 460 actually came out of a 150 4x4 in the junkyard that was wrecked. I thought I had the alt. and ps setup licked well I was wrong again lol.
