Have a 93 f250 7.3 non turbo. 4x4 e4od..... recently had rebuilt tranny put in with h.d. converter. Has gone back to shop for 3rd time.. before original tranny failed, it shifted hard and at high rpm's... after getting back, still shifted hard and high rpms 2500 plus. then while plowing, would not shift past 2nd. eventually shifted through all and took back. they replaced a few electronics gave back and pretty much did the same thing.... had blinking od light... Of course when i was in route to take back to shop it worked through gears and light stopped blinking... now, shop is saying it needs new computer..... Is this reasonable or are they missing something... Does computer control that much of the shifting?
Yea the computer controls all the shifting with the E40D.
I put a different computer in mine but it didn't help, has slightly different symptoms then your's has though.
I bought a used computer at a local junk yard but with the understanding I would/could bring it back for credit if it was found not to be the problem.
One of the benefits of having and using the same yard all the time.
I doubt it's the computer but if you could just "try" one like I did a minute that would at least confirm it is or isn't the problem.
You need to take it out if you do so they can use the numbers on it to get you the right one. Take for instance my 94, they list 13 different computers it could have in it!
Ya, they pulled codes and replaced parts the second round... then got same codes after taking it in this third time.... Waiting to hear today if the new computer works.....
