Overdrive light blinking

I was out driving around in my 1998 F150 with a E4OD tranny and suddenly it started to shift very hard from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. The OD light is blinking now. The torque converter lockup is still smooth along with OD. I am taking it in Monday AM. Any ideas what could the problem.

I just replaced the ABS/Speed sensor in the rearend and mine doesn't seem to have any issues anymore.

Mine was a hard shift as well. Downshift to 1st was sometimes tough too.
I haven't had any problems since....knock on wood.

Go to an autozone and had codes scanned for free would be my first step.

Autozone cannot read transmission codes, you need a special code reader to read trans codes.

Not exactly. You don't need a "special" reader, you may just need a better one.

The ones that many AZ stores use are simple readers that only support generic codes. To be able to ensure that all codes are pulled (including transmission-related ones), the reader MUST support "manufacturer's specific" codes.

Check the features of the reader to see what it is capable of.

Hopefully the transmission shop will be able to diagnose the problem. While driving the truck to the shop today the tranny was shifting fine and the light is not blinking anymore. I had the transmission fluid changed last summer. I checked it in January because it felt like it slipped slightly when starting and it was down by 2.5 litres. Since then the level has not changed. I presume the was not enough fluid put in last summer. I hope that low fluid level did not cause the problem.

You are having one of three possible issues....

OSS
TSS
VSS

These three sensors report along the same line to the ecm at various levels of impedance referencing ground.

SCT Programmers read these codes....They come up as PO-----
