OD blinking light fix.

Ok so like a lucky few of you i have the blinking OD light and think i know what it is but hoping to get a couple other ideas to fix it. I got the truck coded a while back and it had a tc fault code, dont remember exactly what it was. And when i get into on-off traffic it sets off the od light and starts shifting hard. So im trying to deny the expensive fact that i might need a new tc or tranny. So is it possible that i need just a new tc or the entire tranny built, it shifts perfect when the od isnt blinking. i was looking for some links or help to fix this problem. What else could set the od off and make it shift hard? I know i should probably take it to a tranny shop to have it looked over, just thought i would come here first like i always do.

All i know is that's not a good thing! Get it checked out before you wreck the entire tranny.

I see one solution in your sentence....Get stage 1's and a chip AND fix your tranny. I don't think OR is the correct term.

Take it to a tranny shop. That's what I would do in this situation. Try to find out what the best shop in your area is and go there. Talk to them. Talk about your options.

Yea thats what i was thinkin i should do to diagnose it best. i was just hoping someone here would have an idea of anything else that could help. i think i have heard of those connections in the tranny causing problems just didnt know if they would cause this.

Look on top of your rear diff case. There is a sensor. It is the vehicle speed sensor. Take out the one bolt holding it in, pull out carefully as I've seen one broken off(wouldn't want to drop it into the diff if so), and inspect/clean. Sometimes that is all that causes the hard shifts. In my case I had the OD light blinking and threw a TC fault code and needed a new TC or tranny. I didn't go to the work of rebuilding it all or diagosing tc vs trans, instead swapped to a zf so no help from me there. Good luck and if that doesn't work then you may have a ticking bomb so don't push it.

Blake, I had it once 1,800 miles from home. I put in that Lucas anti slip stuff and it worked long enough to get me home. Then it was rebuild time.

Go back to the 94-97 powerstroke page and there is a button on the top left. Should say new thread or post thread. I forget now.

Blake, I have had my OD light come on many times and have been trying to figure it out for quite a while, I have taken truck to shop that my buddy owns but he says that everything looks good inside, fluid is red , no smell, pessures are good and don't think it needs to be rebuilt. We did change the VSS a few years ago and some kind of electrical pack in the tranny but I still have the problem once in a while.

Yeah, anytime that OD light is blinking, its on its way out the door.. Other Ford models will do the same thing before going toast. The fact that you had a friend install the treatment already last year, I think you milked her for all you could!

Hey, you were looking to upgrade anyways, right?
