I don't think it's necessary, but I can't imagine it would hurt anything if you did.

I have the Rancho 9000's w/adj. firmness on my 99 f-250. Excellent shock ,especially if you tow or haul . I crank them all the way up when towing, hauling or snowplowing. makes a big difference.

Thumbs up

Air tools sure would be nice!

I did the Front two 5100's last night, took me about an hour and then I realized I would need to drop the 35" spare to get at the rears and I was freezing cold so went inside to save the rears for next weekend.

I couldnt budge the Bolts with a 1/2" socket drive, so I coated everything with liquid wrench and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Still couldnt budge them. I ended up adding 3 extensions to the ratchet so it was out past the fender and used a cheater bar with all my weight on it (Im 6'5" and 240 lbs). My cheater bar was a genious Idea I thought....couldnt find any pipe laying around so I took the Batteries out of my 6 cell Maglight and used that....worked like a charm.

After monkeying my big **** around in the wheel-well for 30 minutes each side I was getting frozen so I went to test drive it for a gallon of milk and man what a difference after just the fronts.

The old shocks were so rusty and dead....they wouldnt even extend themselves after compressed.

You had to drop the spare? I didn't need to do that, was able to get at it from the front of the axle.

Regardless, glad to hear you got 'em though, sounds like they were rusted on their pretty good. My shocks were all changed in AZ conditions, so a few rain storms here and there, so they weren't exposed to the same elements yours was (salt on the roads I'm guessing by your screenname location)

My spare seemed to block the top mounting points for the shocks from any ratchet of significant size that im going to need up there.....

I see where many people like the Bilsteins, Edelbrock and Ranchos for ride and off roading, but how do they work with loads? I regularly haul 425 gals of water (3200 or so lbs). do they last with this type of use? Would this be a good application for the adjustables?
