Question Odometer Problems

I Have A 02 F250 Diesel. I Came Across An Issue With My Odometer When I Changed My Batteries My Odometer Jumped 24,000 Miles From 28634 To 42000 Even. The Major Problem Is That I Do All My Own Maintenance On The Truck So I Have No Way To Show The Dealer What The Milage Was Before The Odometer Jumped. I Want To Know If Anyone Has Had This Problem With The Odometer And What Was The Problem?

I am going through the same issue. Look up the conversion for miles to KM and do the math, your truck is probably displaying in KM. That is what the dealer thinks is wrong with my truck. I am waiting to hear back from Ford to see if this can be fixed. The dealership is suggesting I might need a new instrument cluster ($700).

Good luck, let me know if you hear anything.

My '03 F-350 has battery issues about every 2 years, especially in the winter. Sits for a week or so and won't crank. I have the batteries tested at the auto parts store and they check OK. Ford checks the alternators and they are OK. I screw around and wind up buying new batteries or force the auto parts store to cover them under warranty.
This year was no different. I took the batteries to Advance, where of course they check OK. Need charging, but OK. They suggest I have Ford check the alternators. Yeah, right I've been down this road before.
So, I bring them home and charge one overnight and one the next day. Reverse them when I put them in - Passenger to Driver's side and vice versa. It fires up OK and cranks fine for the next few days.
I'm driving down the road and look at the odometer and it is showing 240,000, where it had been reading 149,000. I wonder what the heck is going on. Then think maybe it's converted to metric. I do some research and find where others have had the same issue. Fix is to have Ford dealer reprogram. No suggestions on what exactly to do, but that the dealer can do it.
So, today I take it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed and have the safety inspection performed. They say it shouldn't take them long. About an hour later, they come back and say it's got everybody in the shop scratching their heads. The 2 service advisers are frantically searching youtube and google for fixes. Tech comes in and says it's got to be the instrument cluster, that there's no way to reprogram it. In the meantime I find where someone fixed a 95 motor home with basically the same problem by disconnecting the batteries for 5 minutes.
The tech says he'll try that and comes back in about 5 minutes and says that fixed it. I could have done that at home. Should have thought of trying that, but when I saw the posts about the dealer needing to do it, I figured it was beyond me.
We all had a good laugh and they only charged me for the inspection.
