Wondering where anybody with a CB puts them. I have a Cobra Classic radio. Mounting locations are sparse with the 6 spd., trailer brake controller and lack of empty space. It's just wedged between the driver's and middle seat now. I don't really want to just throw it on the dash for any prying eyes to see. Anyone heard of a bracket to put it on the headliner between the sun visors?
mine is on the front of the box in between my seats as well..but i have an auto..other guy's have them up by the rear view..i think you can use the cb bracket but not 100% sure..some one will chime in and let ya know the facts..i also ran my power out to the driver side battery cause in the fuse box you get alot of engine noise..
Here's what mine looks like (even though it's not a CB). I sorta stole SpringerPop's idea, but he doesn't have a trailer brake controller (I do, but don't use it -- and I can move the radio head up if I do). I just put it in like that over the weekend, so it may change. But for now it's very functional and very easy to reach with elbow resting on the arm rest. The tennis ball isn't as obvious sitting in the truck as it is in the picture. Still, I may "upgarde" it to a raquetball instead.
Well, I stole the mount idea from SpringerPop, so the mounting idea credit goes to him. I'm getting a lot of noise (from the PCM I think on VHF, and injector noise on the 7 MHz band), so I'm going to try moving the power lead to the passenger side battery and see if that makes any difference. I picked up one of those audio amplifier wiring kits because it comes with connectors, fuse, and some pretty heavy wiring. That radio draws 20A+ on transmit (puts out 100W on HF), so I need some heavy cabling.
Here's how I have my galaxey mounted its on a 3/4" piece of birchstanding straight up mounted to L brackets to the floor, it is off center to the center seat for clearance but the pass seat still clears it . I will see if I can find a pic.
Joe,I think this forum would disown you(LOL) if you 'upgraded' to a racquetball. Besides I see a lot more tennis ***** loose on the streets thus should you ever wear this one out just pick one up at the next corner.
Well, I'm not a fan of drilling in to my headliner, and it's not a good angle on that LCD. It washes out pretty badly looking up from a low angle. I had it strapped vertically to the middle seat (just like the pic above) before I separated the head and stuck it there with the tennis ball, and it was very hard to see. The other reason is that I'm lazy -- I would much rather leave my arm on the arm rest while twiddling the *****.
I had the control head on a small goose-neck mount in my Ranger right between the shifter (it was a manual) and the front of the seat. Again, made it nice & easy to get to with my arm on the rest.
But, I do actually have a CB. Someone gave it to me because they knew I was into radios. Didn't want to be rude, so I took him up on it. I got a power cable for it just to see if it worked (it does), but I never plugged a mic into it. Don't even have one for it! Maybe one day I'll try it out. Here's what it looks like:
Anyone ever play with one of these?
