The tennis ball is a great idea! The wife has racquetballs around here, too.
Right now, it's a Tot-Lock magnet, which has no effect on anything 'cause everything's plastic and aluminum. It was just the right size to do the job, but it works loose. The ball will be perfect!
Thanks!

Yea Joe, I was thinking at the very least, you should have a shiny and bright tennis ball stuffed in there. But I'm sticking with overhead... I'm tellin' ya the Icom would look bad-a$$ up there!
F350-6: What sort of screws did you use to mount that? Any special instructions other than just drilling them in?
1996pwrstrk: Love the hurst shifter, I have the same on mine. Does the CB get in the way of the shifter at all there?
I'll have to look and see what size screws. It may be tomorrow before I can tell you. The biggest thing is just finding the correct location. You may need to lower your rearview mirror if you want it close to the windshield. I used a 90 deg screw on adapter for the antenna cable.
To answer your other question, no it is just drill and screw in. There's enough space between the inner and outer skin for the screws. It's a good idea to re-tighten the screws after a couple of months since the headliner will compress slightly under the bracket. I waited a year to tighten mine, but they were less than 1/4 turn loose.
You all have some nice setups!!!
I ended up putting mine on the top of the dash and don't really like it but there wasn't much room anywhere else and the bracket was too small to mount it on the ceiling where I wanted it.
I have the Galaxy DX959 and it's a good radio.
Not sure if your 99 is the same as my 02 but on mine I removed the 2 screws that hold the garbage bag hooks and it was a perfect fit for my Cobra. No frilling involved.
To overhead mount my radio, (now this would depend on radio size) I cut the mount in half, attached them to the radio, cut side-out and lined them up with the visor keepers. Then there's no drilling in the headliner.
