How could an injector sleeve cause blow-by?

Ding, Ding, Ding......excellent point. Definatly do that first. If you have wiring screwed up, it will most definatly screw with the timing on these things. Injection at the wrong time in a 18:1 compression motor will definatly cause blowby no matter how health your engine is. But ultimately it's up to you. But I would fish a little more.

No I did not do a compresion test we already almost have the engine pulled all we have to do is unbolt the tranny. It has a bad miss and abunch abunch of blow bie and builds up huge pressure. Blew out out all seals and orings. On the ccv, y pipe oil fill tube, and a few more. When it happined I had just got in it and cranked it up and a puff of black then white smoke, I drove for about 3/4 mile. It blew black smoke pretty good for as much throtle as I was giving which was not much and then all of the sudden went to white. I pulled over truck started running ruff and oil was blown every where and seals where blown. And then $$$$$$$ signs went every where!!! The truck has never shown signs of any major problems and has been well taken care of. All fluids and maintence has been done just a freak thing. Idk. I have never pulled a powerstroke engine and its not to bad. Just **** every where.

Found the problem (about a 1 inch hole in the top of number 1 piston). All the pistons have small spider web like cracks in them. Spoke with a diesel machanic who said there was a bad run of pistons.

Well i stand corrected! Hole in the piston is not a good thing! Never heard of a bad run of pistons but you never know. Well atleast the piston didn't take out anything else! should be an easy rebuild!

Good reason to start with a girdle and port/polish etc. Go all the way.

I have talked to a lot of people and no one has ever heard of blowing a hole in a piston. Il post pics when I can. Im not sure what caused this. To much heat is the only thing that would come to mind but I only have stock sticks. What all do yall think I should on the rebuild?

Heat is the only thing that I know of that cracks pistons like that. Make sure the piston cooling jet is still install at the base of the cylinder. They are pressed in and have been known to fall out.

For the rebuild I would have a machine shop/diesel mechanic make that recommendation after measure the cylinders, cam, crank, and block. At the very least is needs to be honed and recondition the valve train. I would put new valve springs as well as seals. For springs I would use comp cams 910-16's. they are a stiffer spring that are drop in's. new pistons, rings, cranks and cam bearings, reseal the oil cooler, and all other seals and gaskets which will all be taken apart any way. If you are planning on larger than stage 1 injectors I would think about head studs while your there but they run $700!
