My truck has a 4180 holley and I want to convert it to manual choke. Holley sayes they dont make a kit to do this. I cant beleve someone has not done this. I like holley carbs but when ford took the 4160 and made there version and called it the 4180 It does not work to good. I have went throw it, now it is running preaty good all but the choke it takes awile for the choke to kick in (one min) and then it wont come of hi idle till it is compleaty wormed up (15 min) I have worked the hi idle screw to get it as good as i can but needs to be better. So two qustions 1. has anyone converted to manual befor
2. what does the one wire going to the choke do
thanks
The wire going to the choke heats up a spring in there to help open the choke. If your wires not hooked up or doesnt have power to it thats why it takes 15 minutes for it to open.
The electric choke is wired to the "S" terminal on the alternator. It is not a full 12 volts, but rather, something like 7.5 volts, I think. It only gets voltage when the motor (and alternator) are running.
