Your wife is correct. Welcome to the "Dark Side" of PowerStrokin'...

CLICKY

Wait until you add a tuner, clean the foil off the I/C tube (if you have it), and put in a WW. The sound is amazing.

Don't want to start a big controversy here, but my eyes are not good enough to determine when a filter change is necessary, and I kinda' doubt anybody's are.

But to each his own, I guess. I'll do mine my way, and you do it yours. :-))

I'm not. My stock filter was FILTHY -- way dirtier than I'd let a filter get. There was no indication on the filter minder at all. But like you said, to each his own.

I believe there were a couple threads about placement of it, and I believe it needs to be near the filter neck, not at the end. That's why I think it's a waste of time. I think if you want to use it, it needs to be on the other end. Just MHO...

I agree 100%, I have a filter minder on my Cat powered motor home that has never budged even a little in all the years I have owned this coach. I do not trust them, and think they are the result of a real slick talking salesman somewhere along the line.

Izzy,

When I had the stock air box and filter, I had the FilterMinder work just as designed. When the filter got dirty enough, the 'Minder started to indicate. I even had it almost pegged one time while down in Texas.

You should not put the device at the outlet end. There's no place to put it at that end where it will read the true vacuum inside the 6637. There were some who initially mounted it in the output pipe and found that the air rushing by on its way to the turbo inlet caused enough venturi action to falsely indicate restrictions where there were none.

Here's a thread from August 2005 that covers it:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...r-problem.html

I'm not suggesting that anyone use it if they don't trust it. It's just that I'm pretty confident that I've got mine set up properly to do its job, and I trust the indications I get.

Too many vehicles come from the factory with these devices for them to be as a result of a fast-talking salesman. It costs the OEMs money to put them there, and you all KNOW what lengths they will go to to eliminate cost of product. They must be of at least SOME value.

Have you gotten an indication on it with the 6637 yet? Just curious.

They "ratchet" up their scale by "notches". Mine currently shows no restriction. But I'd expect that, given I have no performance parts, and I drive like a grandpa (which I am!).

I run an outer cover, and drive it almost exclusively here in the city, where the air hasn't as much dust as the desert, so it stays pretty clean.

However, remember that, up to a "point", a dirty filter actually filters better than a new clean one. The FilterMinder helps me to determine where that point is at.

This is ONE BIG FILTER, and I would expect to get many, many miles from one. How and where I drive, it still won't get changed for a good while.

There's a light film of chassis lube grease inside the rubber ducting coming out of the 6637, which I put there to catch any dust particles for testing purposes, and it has no hint of dirt, dust, or grit of any kind, so I'm confident the filter is still doing its job. A Blackstone every 5000 miles also indicates low silicon. My last few readings have been 4,4,4,5,6,7, with the first number being the most recent, 3000 miles ago. Silicon readings are going down, which I would expect.
