kwik Filter Problem
I recently jumped on the band wagon and Installed the Napa 6637 filter everyone has been raving about

I also did the CCV mod while I was at it. For some reason my existing hoses would not allow me to place the filter behind the battery so i ended up installing a PVC 4" 22deg. elbow between the filter and the exising corrugated hose which went into the airbox orginally. This allow me to place the filter in the exact some spot as the factory airbox. On the outside radius of the PVC elbow I drilled in the orginal air cleaner vacuum thing so It looks somewhat factroy and I could keep an eye on it as to when to change the filter.
I checked everything for tightness etc and took it out for a drive and noticed that I can hear the turbo much better now but Under moderate and heavy acceleration it pulls the filter change thing in all the way like it is not getting enough air which seems odd considering the size of this filter. I never had this happen with the stock airbox and the stock paper filter installed.
Could this 6637 paper be more restictive than the stock one ? I sure would think it would breath better but the vacuum pod doesnt lie and this is with only 17psi of boost. I think it might have sucked the gauge thru the 3/4" hole at about 25psi

Any thoughts ?

I have my wife ride under the hood where the airbox used to be and she tells me what it says

Ok, seriously - the Filter minder vaccum pod from the stock air box will show you how much vacuum it has seen and then needs to be reset by pushing the yellow button.
Drilled .700 dia hole in center of filter "top". I used a rolled-up piece of cardboard inside to protect the filter from any chips, and then used a shop vac to get any particles that might have somehow remained.
Inserted the original grommet into the hole and then the FilterMinder into the grommet. Re-installed the filter.
Made bonsai run down a safe place, and VIOLA! No movement at all on the FIlterMinder. Of course, my filter has less than a thousand miles on it, so this is pretty-much what I expected.
I HAVE seen this 'Minder with the old filter box and a very well-used filter "pegged". That filter is the very first thing I changed on the truck when I first got it. I noticed the thing was pegged, re-set it, and drove three miles. It was back pegged again. So, I know that it works as it should. Even with the old filter, the engine still performed well.
Here's a look at how the thing looks now:

Now Im wondering what my problem could be.
Do you have a pic of the entire setup ?
Are you running any performace chips / programs etc ?
Do you have better downpipe/exhaust ?
What tyoe of boost #'s are you seeing in a wide open run ?
Thanx for doing this test for us Pop

I wonder if you mounted the FilterMinder in such a way that the air rushing past the sensor's port creates a venturi effect? Thus vacuum, that isn't really there in the airstream, is being seen.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I am wondering if this was in fact a gain or a loss by adding this filter. It certainly "LOOKS" bigger and better but if the paper is thick enough it may not "FLOW" better which is 50% of what I was after.
The goal is
Cleaner air and better flow or at least the same.

Believe it or not, a somewhat dirty element filters better than a new, clean one. But that is only good to a point, and the 'Minder tells you when you have gone past that point.
As you can see from my sig, I'm a filter-obsessive kind of guy. A clean motor (inside) is a healthy motor.
Ford REALLY must think it a good thing for them to not cut this corner.
YMMV.

i knew there had to be a reason for the Minder, just never herad a good explenation for it and no-one ever seemed to bring it up. if i had the money i'd put on a coolant filter and soem mroe doo-dads to keep the inside clean, but alas, no money for anyhitng more than oil changes and diesel (which thankfully is down to 2.13....)
You might want to think twice about installing the FilterMinder directly in the intake ducting, especially in light of Boydz information above. First, let's see if his results change when he moves it to somewhere else.
I'd just drill a hole in the filter "top" if there's room in your truck for it there. That's the place where there's pretty-much undisturbed, unturbulant air.
The only downside I can think of is:
You need to drill the hole each filter change. ;-)))
