sounds very reasonable, perhaps the cold shrinks the seal just enough to let the water in.
There is some signs of water but i though it was old from when a window had been left open or just splash back. Any idea on how to get up inside to verify this idea?

happy new years to all .... here's the update:
borrowed a code reader, played with it for several hours to no avail. it's not throwing ANY codes.i had my doubts , doesn't seem that a diagnostic is going to be valid when the problem is electrical in nature anyway. however, did find the source of the noise when first started ...... it was the water pump. first time i've ever had a pump go bad that didn't squeal. so i'll be out in the fresh snow changing that out today. does anybody have a trick for removing the fan when the factory tool isn't available ?

OK I have a gaser not a psd but 12vdc is12vdc my alt went bad the other night truck kept running fine till the yellow top got low then the radio cut out then i got air bag light then last thing that lit was batt. light. shot to the house and batt had 8v left alt graould like a bear , charged batt. changed alt all is good no noises under dash any more life is good check basics good batt good ground makes it easeier to check curcits with proper volts and ground
