adding cruise to a 7.3 F350
I need some advice on adding cruise to my 2000 F-350, 7.3 diesel, 6 speed manual. 4x4. dually truck. The dealer says the add on cruise kit is no longer available, however I did find a kit for a gas burner truck which I purchased. It has a new steering wheel with the cruise buttons, new clock spring, a switch on a bracket, some cables, and the most generic instructions I have ever seem in my life! I know the 7.3 is fly by wire so do I just need the steering wheel buttons? does the dealer have to get involved with changing something in the computer ? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

sounds like the kit. clock spring should have 2 more wires than you already have, the switch goes on the clutch pedal, clock spring is a real pain. Hope the details talk about properly installing it carefully.
disconnect batteries and be VERY CAREFUL around the airbag.
if the wires are good, the PCM looks out there and sees the new switches installed and VIOLA!! sets itself up for cruise control operation. No user input required. PCM will flash lights on the dash if it ain't right.
be careful to not pinch or misroute wires around screws, should take about 2 beers and a hour to install.

I added cruise to my 2000 E350 7.3 PSD. The cruise kit was for a gas engine and was the type with the vacuum servo and cable for hooking to a throttle or throttle body linkage. I grounded the tach lead since there's no ignition and mounted the cable end in the firewall with the cable/ball chain attached to the back of the accelerator pedal. It's been in service for 8 years now and works great.

I'm certainly not trying to 'diss' any folks that have reponded to you, but I guess I need to ask "Why".
My dually is happy at 62-65 mph and I find my cruise control to be a bit more of a problem than a solution......
Just asking, diesel is expensive, and CC is not gonna help your cost.......

thanks for the help, I am going to try and do something with it in the next week or so. I know that some like cruise and some dont. I am in the " likes cruise " catagory, especially on a 6 hr drive, and also helps avoid those annoying light shows that cost so much money! I will have to do more research on the clock spring change out.

Completed the cruise install tonight and it works great! New steering wheel with buttons, new clock spring and the brake pedal switch and bracket ( this all comes in the kit from Ford ) and there ya go. Seems the clutch pedal switch was already wired to turn off the cruise. Thanks to all !
