This is a really simple question, but: what does the 300 redline at? I know peak power comes low...Thanx in advance.

Peak HP is at 3400 RPM. Redline?? My tach doesn't have one and I've never revved it high enough to get into the rev limiter. I'd guess somewhere around 5200-5500, but since you're losing power above 3400, why bother?

Ok, the peak hp is at 3400. Since my father swears up and down that you will "float" the valves if you rev it up that far sitting still, how fast will i have to be going to reach 3400 rpm with a C6? I'm guessing about 120-ish..

You all say that 3600 is the max power range? I can't even bring mine up to 3000 without it sounding like it is ready blow up, is this normal? I have a '81 300 with all stock features.

Thanks,

Matt

any above idle speed you run an engine without a load on it should be considered the redline.

I've always heard 4000 is about tops for the 300. I've never had mine past 3500, and from the sound at 3500, don't know if I want to.

I know this is late in the game to mention this, but I could swear that I read different RPMs on max hp and torque. I saw (in a service manual at Books-a-Million, I think) that peak hp of 140 came at 2800 RPM, and peak torque of 280 lb.-ft came at 2000 RPM. If somebody knows differently, let me know!

Not too sure on redline, but I would have to agree with most everyone in this thread that having a 300 above 3500 is a scary thought. Mine just won't go any higher than about 3200 and doesn't appear to have any power left when it gets that high.

i can agree my 77 i-6 has no power after 3000 or so.
it seems to accelerate best around 1700-2500, i guess.
i dearly wish i had more than a three speed tho....

I have had three 300 I6's and never took one over 4000; however, they seem to put out good power at least into the high 3000s. I now generally will shift at about 3500 to 3600 if I am standing on it. I bought a tach that only goes to 4000 so I dont need a redline. Mine is a '95 and the spec is hp peak at 3600 rpm so it has got to be good for at least that and a few hundred more, but who needs it, this motor pulls great in the 2000 range.

In my 90 300-6, I would hardly take it above 3100. The noise scared me the most. But after I put in the MSD 6AL and MSD TFI Coil, that engine will pull 3500 with power to spare.
