i dont have a dyno chart but, the straight six's peak horsepower is 150hp @3400 rpm and peak torque is 265@ 2000rpm. so really spinning that engine anywhere past 4000rpm wouldnt be helpful.

this was covered not that long ago.

3500 is safe, 4000 maybe safe, 4500 not recommended, 5000+ easy to repair because it will be in small pieces.

remember: advanced search is your friend.

have hit 6,000 rpm but I say not worth to do that. after 4,500 rpm is useless.

They don't like rev like V8 do.

6000 in a 4.9 ??? Thats where a 302 HO goes .. I wouldn't go there with a 4.9 ??? You might need a shovel & broom & wheel barrel to clean up the road .. Lew

You tell me BS that mean you never try rev.

I have done 1 time and wouldn't do that again. Those were 89 F150 EFI

Oh that right you afraid to rev. I was curious so I try rev then next day buyer bought and happy with it.

last time i checked there is a rev limiter in there.....

ive seen a straight six go to 5000rpm and god that was an annoying whine it was making, coincidentally 2 weeks later the oil pump blew its cool, gotta love stupid teenagers who try to be cool in a parking lot.

Forgot to say PO rewire electric that explain rev limiter not work.

wires look like he try fix like redneck. It actual work but hard start and battery drain after sit 1 week.

That why I sold that truck too much problem.

But rpm tach could be incorrect. one time it would say 2,000 rpm but when we check with real one that hook to spark wire. It say 1,480.

Hi Chris

A rev limiter? What is it set to, and can I adjust it? When I floor my truck it goes to 4,000 rpm easily. I try to keep it from doing this. However I noticed no sooner my tach reaches 4,000 it stops. I was wondering if my truck has a rev limiter.

By the way, they say the 300's peak torque is at 2,000 rpm but mine feels like it has power from 1,500 to 2,500. Maybe it's horsepower I feel past 2,000 rpm.

Edit: What do you mean annoying whine? My 300 sounds pretty cool at four grand. =D haha

well, annoying whine was that kid had a leaking stock exhaust. i dunno what your truck sounds like since my youtube aint workin but im sure it sounds good. i like the way mine sounded with no muffler actually. i have no clue what the rev limiter is set at but i know its in there somewhere, i never had a tach setup to really see where it was, it might be in one of my manuals though so ill have to check. my guess is that the torque from 1500rpm to 2500 rpm is almost the same its just highest at 2000rpm so it wouldnt feel much different in between there. 300s are very zippy around town stoplight to stoplight lol

Yeah. I'm running at 2,000 at 40 mph when I kick it out of OD. However when I give it the juice it moves pretty good from there. I'm really glad to have OD.. Without it I couldn't be geared low.

Why isn't your youtube working? My truck doesn't sound a whole lot different than any other 300. Sounds like a diesel 4-banger. I liked the way my truck sounded with no muffler, too. Sounded a lot like a tractor.

Well duh! If my worn 300 can reach 4,000 with ease I would imagine a built e40d and cam would take me to 5,500. I think if my tranny had a shif kit in it I could bark the tires going into second. I really feel the transmission holds my truck back a lot.

I haven't had mine much beyond 3500 Rpm. Haven't had to. It would probably go to 4500 but not much beyond that the valves would float. I never go beyond 3800. As Opti says a cam and some head work would certainly help with the upper end. Opti and others have done a lot of "road research" with the 300 to prove that it does have potential and can be a potent power plant, but I have a hard time that a stock 300 could hit 6000 and still keep its internals intact.

I don't know about the Ford rev limits. On my wifes 94 LT1 the computer has a speed cut off that is related to the tires that were originally installed. I don't think it has a rev limiter and a divorce would be too high a price to pay to find out.

regards
rikard
