[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Feb-02 AT 08:51 AM (EST)]There supposedly isn't a redline on the 4.2l, because my friend has a 97 with a tach and there isn't a redline on it. Hope this was of any help.
Just because it doesn't have a RED line on the gauge doesn't mean theres no "RED LINE" to the engine lol, stock I think its set between 4800 rpms, and 5200 rpms, but once you get a Diablo, or some other chip, you can raise it, it doesnt matter though, cause the hp drops dramatically past 5000 in any gear, so I had mine set to 5600 just incase I accidentally bump a lil over 5k on my shifts at the track...
Yes it does have a rev Limiter, but even if you get a chip, and have it taken off, you won't blow the engine very easily, I shift out at 5000 rpms in 2nd and 3rd when I'm at the track... I've gotten up to 6500 before, but its pointless cause the powerband drops off right at 5000 so I usually shift out a lil before that when I'm racing... but normal driving I shift out around 2000 or so, but NOOO You don't have to worry bout blowing the engine of your only around 4500 rpms...
Nooo, I've hit around 6500 before, don't know if it was just the tach overwrappin itself or what, but it was on takeoff, I usually dont get over 5k, but I've seen it around 6200 and a lil higher a few times...
It's impossible. Your tach only goes to 6000 RPM's if you even have one...at 6500 RPM's, without some kind of aftermarket insane cam gear, you aint gonna get over 6 grand. There's a guy named Talley and he has a wicked cam on his truck, and he ported and polished his heads...and he can JUST shift at 6200 RPM's. His truck is modded far beyond stock also. Trust me, on a 97 and up F150, you're never going to hit 6500 RPM's.
I have a chip in mine and my truck won't even hit 6000 without stalling.
Well, Thanks for your kindness there homer, but I'm useing the Odometer tach, and just walked out to the truck, and it registered 6200 don't know if its a glitch, or what, but I'm pretty sure I can read numbers... but like I said, could be a glitch, or the tach just runnin ahead of itself... No Idea, but thats what it says... Don't know if it would matter, but I had my diablo set to 6500 for when I do start replacein my cams and everything... probably just a glitch though...
Lance, I'm telling you man...6500 isn't going to happen. It's either a glitch or something is wierd, but you aren't going to see 6500 RPM's. No way! That would pretty much blow your motor...You would be over revving he engine by about 1,000 or more RPM's. I'm no guru, but I'm about 110% I'm right.
6500rpm. This isn't a overhead cam engine. it is OHV. It starts sounding rough at 5000, espeacially 5500rpm, much less 6500 stock. But if it does or doesn't, must we get so fiesty with each other. I thought us 4.2 guys were supposed to stick together against the competion, not call each other dumb.
