has anybody had any trouble with running a roots blower? I'm running a 14-71 on my aluminum hemi and am having trouble keeping the main caps on the block, makes a mess when the crank falls into the pan at 8 grand
I too would like to see that, post up a picture some time, but you do know this is a Ford Forum right? ,And as much as I think this is a BS post, if this is true? you seriously need to find a better engine builder + use better parts... Dit- Di,Dahh!!!

after doing some research into what is available in the aftermarket I have decided to take it upon myself to fix the problem, I am currently milling a new set of main caps out of 4340, the only way the crank will find its way out now is if the block disintegrates around it, problem was with main caps breaking in half
That may be true but what does 14-71 mean. 6-71 and 8-71 are Detroit engine designations for two stroke diesel engines. First # = cylinders second # = CID per cylinder. So an 8-71 is a V8 with 568 CID. That said would a 14-71 blower be like a 6-71on top of an 8-71. Anyway sounds like a hell of an engine why not create a gallery so we can see this monster and what its going in. Rich
the 14-71 designation is totally from the aftermarket, a 6-71 has 15" long rotors, an 8-71 has 16" long rotors, the length increase means more air per rev, my 14-71 has 20" high helix rotors, the rotors are machined with a twist (helix), typical helix is 45*, mine are 60*, what this does is make the blower more efficent by sealing the space between the rotor lobes and case faster reducing blowback, I've tried to post some pics but am not allowed to post attachments, check out my website www.jandmdrivetrain.biz, there are some pics up of my stuff, be sure to check the researh page where the pics of busted parts are

If you currently hiring, I am looking for a job and your R&D department looks like a great place to break go-fast parts, I mean work. That is pretty impressive that you broke a 4 bolt main cap in half and some of those rods look nice too.
the pic of the main cap was off my boss9, all 5 were broken, the new billet steel caps that I made are the ones on the block , sorry, if I hired, I wouldn't have so much fun!
