I'd like to know if i could add audio controls to an '05 steering wheel with the factory stereo. My Jeep has them on the steering wheel and they are great. When I'm in my F250 and I want to change the station I instinctively go to hit the radio controls on the steering wheel like the Jeep. It's kinda a long reach over to do it the old fashioned way
thr radio controls work because i got a harness and the adapter to use factory contrls with an aftermarket radio. the climate control buttons dont because my X is an 01 and it has the manual a/c controls. i mainly did it for looks because my factory wheel was looking crapy.
Racer, I just picked up the same wheel. It's from an '05 SD King Ranch. I took everything apart and just before I pulled the old wheel, I saw that the old plug is very different from the new one. The stock plug is a five-prong and the King Ranch is a seven-prong. What harness and adapter did you use to get the two to mate?
For now, I'm just going to reassemble until I can sort out what I need to do.
Also, I'm assuming that the cruise control also works. It that correct?
Thanks, Later... Brewster...
I replaced the driver's airbag after rebuilding mine, wasn't a big deal. A friend who works at a dealership told me they tried to make some old airbags go off before and it is very difficult. All the warnings are mostly for liability purposes. There is a tab on the plug that shorts the pins when disconnected to protect against static electricity.
That being said, I wore safety glasses and didn't put any tools or sharp objects between me an the bag when installing it. I also wore safety glasses the first time I started it after that. Also, I kept the windows down the entire time to reduce the concussion in the cab in case it went off. Better safe than sorry.
the cruise control had to be rewired. the harness is from an 01 navigator not an 05 super duty. the conector is one of those made from PIE. i am not sure on the wiring from the new truck..sorry, i know that i didnt help...
