Transfer Case Fluid ???

Dose the transfer case have its own fluid or dose it run off the trans?

99 F-150 5.4L Lariat AT Auto Shift transfer case.

It has its own fluid and I'm 99% sure that it uses Mercon.

it holds 2 quarts. drain below the drive shaft, fill about the shaft level. look like 1/2 inch pipe plugs with 3/8 square drive holes. fill with the same stuff in your transmission, MERCON or V.

I was educated earlier on that it has to be changed at regular intervals.....be ready for a mess because the damn fluid pours out on the cross member and splats everywhere.
