Question Dp Tuner Questions

Ok I am looking to order The DP Tuner setup.

My truck is stock except for the 5 inch MKO exhaust and the 6637 filter.
Guages are on there way. First question is I am thinking about These tunes :

No Start
Stock
Lope idle
80 Econo
The above I want for sure. Here is the ones I have questions about:

First is a toss up between the 100 performance and the 120 race. I have no desire to add any more tricks to the truck except maybe a valve body kit for the trans. If eaither one of these are used it will be for very short romps to just show what the truck can do.
My old drag racing days are over but a little stoplight fun is not out of the question from time to rare time. So those of you that have it why did you chose it and how do you like it?

Second question is on the towing tunes. At this time the only thing I tow is a 5000 lb boat. So do I get the 80hp tow seting?
do I really 'need' the 80 hp tow setting? What are your thoughts here?

Last but not least. what about the ITP Diesel Overboost Annihilator? Do you have it? Is it needed in what tunes I am looking at? Do the tunes I am looking at give me more than 22 lbs of boost?

I am looking to take a trip soon all highway and I want it more for the mileage increase I hope to see. Have you set the cruise control at 70 to see if it helps your mileage? I know romping on it will not get me great mileage but has anyone tried to just cruise to see what it has done?

Thanks!
Steve

I did the 120R, that seems to be the good redlight to redlight setting, some say the 140 is too much for the HPOP, and for weak HPOPs the 120 is too much. Do the 120 and dont look back. I got both the 80e and 80tow. I absolutely love how the 80tow runs when loaded. I grossed 23k last week, and had absolutely no trouble with egts..... I always run with the cruise on the interstate, and TRY to stay below 70. And with my truck loaded the way it is, currently in the 80e setting is just shy of 14, on winter fuel of course. I havent done anything for the overboost on the map yet, mine ramps right up to 25psi though, and thats were it levels off. Which isnt a problem, they say the turbo is out of its map over 25 psi anyways.

to answer you questions

1) get 120 you wont regret it i have it and i love it. but between 100 and 120 is not that much diference. only if your HPOP is in good shape might tell bigger diference
2)5000# is not much , you can tow it in 80econo tune. so get 40 tow just in case you tow bigger trailer
3)get the boost annihilator cause you get SES light and you truck will defuel as soon as you hit that pedal harder . over 22# of boost will make it trip. and if you get on it to just show somone how slow their truck is, you will look lame once you defuel, cause you wont have power.
4)stay at 1950 RPM, so below 70. bout 65mph. 70mph will be over 2000rpm. not that good.

now what i would sugest with DP

1. no start
2. Hi idle
3. 40 tow
4. 80 econo
5. 120 race
6. loope idle

hope this helps

I towed a 7000lb trailer in 80 econo and had a great time with low egts. I would go right to 120 because their isnt much difference to me between 80econo and 100 performance except smoke from the tailpipe on takeoff. I have the ITP overboost and love it.

Yeah, get the 120R. The 80E is more like a 100HP tune anyway. Jody has been working on it, so there wouldn't be much difference between it and the 100 HP tune. However, get the VB kit and Tuner done at the same time. And make sure you tell DP that you're getting the tranny tweaked -- Jody will tune it for the VB kit. I got the ITP OBA and it's worth it. No pesky OverBoost CEL at 22psi or defueling at 25. Easy mod and worth the few $$$ it costs.

If i were you, get stock, high idle (0 comes as no start, dont bother ordering it seperate), 60hp tow, 80hp tow/hybrid (i like it better without the stock fueling tip in, and the shifts are different. Then, go for 120 race, or 140 if you like smoke, because that's all it will do on a stock truck.

ok so we are narrowing it down a bit.
What would I need a high idle for? Normal temp here is usually over 45 in the winter and 70 to 80 in the summer mornings? Is that all it is used for?

You think with what I tow I don't need the 80 tow? Just use the econo 80?

What is 80hp tow/hybrid? I did not see that one.

With the tuner does it reach 22psi or defueling at 25?

Pete; You said: '4)stay at 1950 RPM, so below 70. bout 65mph. 70mph will be over 2000rpm. not that good.'

Is this for the gas mileage question?

Thanks all! Keep it coming..

I had the 80 econo and i hated how it shifted the transmission. Like you could barely feel it. Apparently the shifting is different on the 80 tow. So jody mixed me up a tune that was a hybrid. He will know what you are talking about.

High idle is cheap, and for extended idleing if you do so, if you never let it sit to idle, then its more then likely no use to you!
If I ordered again, I would definetly get the 80 tow again. Like I said, I just towed a gross combination weight of 23k for an hour and a half, some interstate, some off road etc. 80 tow was perfect IMO. Like I said above, Ill be doing a mileage comparison in 80tow vs 80e. To see if there is any difference. Im half way through my second tank on the 80e. I personally wouldnt mess with a lesser tow setting then the 80. I cant see a need for it after how it performed last week.
Staying below 2000 rpms is a fuel mileage tip.

On some trucks the check engine light comes on at 22psi. They usually wont let you go above 25psi (defueling) But the oem charger is known to deteriorate faster above 25psi
