ok so here is my question....i got a harddrive as a gift from a friend but it does not except sata connection..only the old (i believe its called serial or parallel) connection.ya know the wide wire that 20 little pins go into on the connector?ok well i want to put it in my desktop and i have 1 more pci express (x1) slot left.do they make a pci card that i can connect this harddrive to via the serial or parallel connection.(and yes i only have 1 of these connections on my motherboard or else i would just connect it like that but there is already 3 things on the serial/parallel connection..card reader-and 2 dvd drives..so can someone give me some help?i know it might be a little hard to understand.im a software guy not a hardware guy.=)
Yes they do make a card that plugs into a open pci slot, I had someone give a old computer a couple years back that had one, they had five hard drives hooked up and running at the same time.
I'll dig around and see if I can find it, I cant even remember what they called the thing.

These cards used to be called a 'Promise' card.
Maxtor marketed the card also.
These cards allowed you to connect up to 4 more EIDE (parallel or PATA) drives.
You might find one locally, at a computer supply store, or, perhaps at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com
These 'Promise' cards are not expensive. $15.00 or so, if that.
I have one in my pc. I'm running a 'Zip' drive and a DVD-ROM drive on it.
I have no experience with the new SATA drives.

Oops, sorry - my bad - I read it the other way around...
It's a 20 pin connector? It's not SCSI then, even the oldest SCSI used 50 pins. And IDE/EIDE uses 40 pins... So I'm not sure what your drive is - can you post a picture of the connector?
