transfer case conversion ???
Just rolled 85,000 without a hickup on anything but i was thinking about the automatic transfer case shifting. I was curious what's different between the manual vs auto transfercase trucks? If (or when) I ever have problems in the future I would like to just make it a manual (like my '70 - you know its engaged)
Any insite? Is it just a lever that bolts onto the actuator mount? (obviously the hole in the floor, i'm talking mechanically)
Thanks, just planning ahead,
Brian
I've owned it since 80k miles (151k-ish now) and its had trouble engaging the entire time. Always takes 4 or 5 tries if you haven't had it in 4x4 for a month or so. I've looked into converting my Explorer and the transfer cases are totally different so that would be a little pricy. For now, when its at its worst, a few raps on the shift motor with the BFH takes care of it for several months. When it works well it sounds like really weak clicking under there and finally goes in. At least my SD makes a distinct clunk as soon as you turn the ****.
So, I have no intention of doing this until it becomes a problem but the info would be good to know.
I searched and searched, and can't find the answer. What do I need to do to convert from ESOF to manual. its not as easy as just swapping cases, my case is a hybrid dodge/ford unit to bolt up to my nv5600, and that means I couldn't recoup costs by selling the old case as easy as normal.
So, does anyone have experience converting? What all is involved? any aftermarket sources make a simple kit?
Sorry to dredge up an old post. If i missed the information somewhere else, please post up a link. I'm sick of electronic failures...
