Hey again. I found the 1969 F100 motor is 360. My cousin have 429 and 460. Which is best to built for street/strip I want run 400-450 hp. What do u think about 429 or do it with 360 to built bigger one.
Hey there! I found 429 engine with 4 speed. I think it came from pickup truck? Year 1971 the label on valve cover show. the heads is dove-c But its rust. Dont know if able to built and clean up? So other 460 came from truck too. But dont know what year is. But the valve cover label show 460 but on side say 429/460. Which should I do it? stick 429 heads put on 460 block? But some people say should get 351. I am confuse. WHICH one should I get it? I want more powerful and run faster. So the 1969 F100 truck at junkyard the engine is 360. Which I can start built the engine make 450 hp. So let me know what exactly motor size I should get it.
Is anyone gonna help me out??? I am so excited to get some info which one I can stick right engine and ahead to built up. Pls post me back asap. Thanks.
The only difference between a 429 and a 460 is the stroke. The heads are identical on both. To find out the year of the engine just read the casting numbers. For example, head casting C8VE are heads from 1968, C9VE from 1969 and D0VE from 1970, etc. I would stay away from the 351C as from my experience they have trouble with the bottom end. I would go with a 460. I have ran one in my 79 for 6 years and it runs great, the only disadvantage is the weight. Big blocks are darn heavy. Also check out 460ford dot com for lots of valuable insights on 460's.

Okay just stick with 460 not 429? What size I can get setup compriossor ratio and full forgeds crank, rods, piston etc. I want run 450hp or more. also want 150 shot of nitrous someday.
need casting #'s. The 429 could still be a good donor for parts being it's got the DOVE heads. The 429's block may be a better start for the build because we still know nothing about the 460. 73 up blocks where taller deck height which meant lower compression... No need for forged crank with what your looking to build...there's guy's running cast cranks in 800hp engine without problems..

WHat about rods and pistons? I will check on 429 bec its all rust bec it been on outside.. What exactly to built 429? Tell me some list?
Ford p/n's for the bare blocks derived from this casting number: D1VZ-6010-A = 429/460/460 P/C (D1VZ-A = before 1/13/75) / D5TZ-6010-B = 460/460 P/C. (D5TZ-B = after 1/13/75 till midyear 1979) P/C = Police Cruiser
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
460: D9TE-6015-AB = midyear 1979 thru 1987.
Ford p/n for the bare block derived from this casting number: D9TZ-6010-A.
No 460's in passenger cars after 1978.
