I've asked a couple different places with no results so you guys get a chance. I have a 94 Explorer Eddie Bauer with multiple electrical issues.
1. dome light doesn't come on. only comes on when back hatch door is open and driver door is open. does not come on with headlight switch.
2. no power locks. I had the unlock function working occasionally after messing with the keyless entry box at the rear.
3. no dash or park lights when i pull the headlight switch. I can only get them on when I have the switch halfway between 1st and 2nd click. I've swapped the switch with another and also checked it in a different vehicle and all is good with it.
last night when i got in after work, the anti-theft light started flashing, headlights flashed, but it started and ran ok. when i hit the unlock button on the door, the headlights would flash on every time i hit it.
I also swapped out the keyless entry relay box with another car to no avail.
I'm starting to think I have some wires or relays loose under the dash. 2 of the autolamp relays were disconnected when i bought it.
If anybody has any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave
I am assuming you have checked the fuses for the parklight/dashlight problem? If so, then I would take the headlight switch back out, and check for voltage on the tan/white wire going to the switch. The parklight circuit feeds the dashlight circuit, and the parklight circuit is different than the headlight circuit.
Does your Explorer have a GEM module? I would look and see if it has any water damage or a loose plug.
fuses all good. remember the lights will come on with the switch halfway between clicks. but it works perfectly on another vehicle. There is another module at the rear that may be the anti-theft that i can't get to right now without pulling the interior side panel off.

There are several different power feeds and circuits in the headlight switch. The power feed on the tan/white for the parking lights is obviously dead. What you are doing by pulling the switch out in this "mid" position, is bridging the circuits together, using power from another part of the switch to feed the parking lights.
ok, you talked me into it. i checked my fuses again and must have popped one this weekend with the dash apart. I now have dash/park lights. Thanks for your persistence and explaining the multiple feeds, made me think a little harder about it.
Now solve the dome light and power lock issue.
Thanks, Dave
The only thing I can think of that is common with the dome lights and the locks is the GEM module. The GEM controls all of those fancy timing functions for the domelights and the locks.
