My 2000 F-250 SD Electric door locks both quit working at the same time. They act like they get about 1/2 of voltage needed to lock or unlock. It does not seem to be a lubrication problem because they both operate very freely. Sometimes the passenger side will operate OK but most of the time it will not push it allway up or pull allway down. It is almost as if a capacitor is not charging to give the solenoid the Kick to open lock, or possibly a poor ground. Any diagrams or ideas on where to look?
Clean the ground points and maybe the contacts are corroding pull the connectors and spray out with contact cleaner, then use dielectric grease when you put them back together!! Radio shack has that contact cleaner pen it increases the conductivity of contacts and leaves a protective coating. They also have that gold pen it leaves a trace of gold on the contact so it stays corrosion free. Spray the window with the garden hose before taking the door panel off if you find water inside, you need to replace the weather striping on the window!!
That all makes sense, but I cannot find any info in the owner's manual that tells me which relay is power lock relay so I can trace wiring from 12V source to keyless control module to solenoids and from solenoids to ground. Is there an online source for schematics and fuse/relay location in vehicle?
Thanks for the suggestion. The solenoids seem to be about $70.00 range each, so I think I will try to troubleshoot a little more . I am also trying to locate exact location on the vehicle of the power lock relay,(about $6-$9) ,first . I may have a sluggish relay or smoked contacts.I may can swap around horn or light relay to test ,but cannot pinpoint relay location from owners manual.
if you didn't get an answer yet. your solenoids are bad. you can find them online at http://www.fordpartsonline.com/ I believe for about $35-40 each. I've replace all 4 of mine. They changed the design in 2002. Search the F250 forum and you can find all kind of info about it.
