Rear End Clunk

Hmmmm. I don't know about a goldmine, but I definitely haven't seen it before! My old man told me that he should have traded his 2000 for it just because of the interior color. He hates tan. And charcoal. ANYWAYS! My mystery clunk is most definitely axle wrap. It seems that it is very common. I've got enough miles under my belt in it now that I don't even notice it anymore. It apparently is inherent to the suspension design and doesn't cause any long term problems. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Rear End Clunk

After some research, I've decided that the best way for me to get rid of the "Klunk" is to implement Lateral Traction Bars or Ladder Bars. I'll either build my own or pay about $300 for a set. Several folks have confirmed what I'm hearing is axle wrap and that traction bars should stop it. Again, my truck has a suspension lift using lift blocks in the back. These bars might look awkward on 2wd and non-lifted 4wd vehicles. Hopefully I'll get this done soon and let you all know how it works and looks.

A late response is better than no response at all I guess, anyway, I have a 97 xlt 4x4 that had the "YOKE" replaced (not slip yoke...there is a difference) four separate times. From a dead stop I could take off and feel a thump ....like it was coming from the rear but it wasn't the rearend.
Each time it was replaced it would only last about a year and then go bad again. I haven't had to replace it for about 2 years now.
Hear is my theory.
Ford manufactures a million yokes with the splines heat treated too soft. You can't very well throw away a million yokes so what do they do? sell them anyway. They know they will last for a while and then will have to be replaced at mine/yours expense. They finally sell all of them and then manufactures a new batch with the correct heat treat.
Just my opinion.
