foglights on 2000 F-150 XLT 5.4 4x4
This may be a stupid question...I purchased this truck used yesterday. Its a 2000 F-150 4x4 5.4 XLT. It has fog lights in the valance with wires running from them and bulbs in them (they are not just reflectors). I cannot figure out how to turn them on. The previous owner said that his truck did not have foglights and that those only came on the Lariat's. They sure as hell look like foglights to me. They are not blinkers, and don't come on with high beams. There is no button on the dash for foglights. There is however a foglight symbol with a down arrow just to the left of my instrument panel dimmer ****. Also, I can see that there is a foglight symbol (would be the 4th position of the headlight dial). The dial is interesting, the order goes "off, parking lights, headlights, foglights" however the foglight symbol is not white like the other 3, it looks like it only shows when lit up and the **** can only be turned as far as the headlight position. Whats up with those lights!? This is bugging the crap out of me. Thanks alot for anyones help!

On my 2002, Turn the lights on to the headlight position, then pull the swith out. My foglights burn only in the low beam setting and automatically go out in high beam. I believe foglights are included with the off road package and are option on 4x4 w/o off road, whether XLT or Lariat

clayton,
the fogs will only work when the headlights are on...as it was stated earlier you need to pull the ****, once you have turned it to the headlight on position.
dclarson,
I have found mine to be useless as well...might I suggest a few alternatives...
pushbar with a set of PIAA 520's (Ion Crystal)IMO, and/or Sylvania Xenarc headlight upgrade...true HID system very nice. I don't have pics yet, but drawsoncad420 does here and at superford.org...our Expy's are almost identical, since the F-150 shares the Ford Family resmblence, I know the Xenarcs are available, and I know with a WAAG pushbar the PIAA 520's kick A$$.

dclarson,
You could also try upgrading the existing bulb in the foglamps with 9005's. Even though this is not an exact match, they do fit (may need just a little trimming). They are highbeam bulbs. I have them in mine and they are much brighter. I have the Sylvania Cool Blue 9005's in mine. You might also want to opt for the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs (which are the brightest bulbs short of an HID).
Good Luck
