I've got a pretty nasty driveline clunk when going over 40mph and letting off and reapplying the accelerator. The way I'd describe it is: when I let off, it feels like something clunks forward, and when I get back on it, it feels like it clunks backwards.
So far I've had the U-joints replaced, replaced the tranny mount, greased the slip-yolk several times, and just changed the rear diff oil (and found no broken teeth or excessive wear in the gears) and it still does it.
Anyone have any ideas?
Since I don't have a sig:
2001 Ex 4x4 7.3L PSD
5" RC Lift (but the clunking was present before the lift)
Finally I find a post with the same problem I have.
1999 7.3 PSD. Same clunk noise. Sounds like way to much slack in the drive line to be the splines on the drive shaft.
One person said it was due to the Bully dog chip. I have never heard of that happening due to a chip. It is annoying to the point that I no longer enjoy driving the truck.
Yes but, it will do it at any speed any time. I have taken it out of o/d and still the same thing.
I am puzzled, I just drove another identical truck and it drove like new. not a think wrong with the drive line.
I never could chase down the problem. The one thing I never got around to checking (before I sold the truck) was the TC bolts, which I've heard can work loose over time.
wow, TC Bolts. That sounds fun.
Well I am a bit leary on this one as I am not ready to do a trans swap yet. I did it on my last one and loved it but ya, Don't have that money sitting around right now.
Well all suggestions are welcome if any other ideas come to mind.
It's pretty easy to check. Just remove the TC cover near the bellhousing (I think it's 4 small bolts) and check the 4 or so bolts that hold the TC on. Not sure on the torque specs but I'd just get 'em tight.
I will have to check it when I gt it back. That would blow my mind if that had that much play in it.
The sound sounds like it is coming from the back but I know sound can travel in weird ways in a vehicle.
Looks like I have a lot to go over.
