my buddy has a 89 7.3 fuel pump is turned up an has cone filter intake but it keeps goin through glow plugs an is melting them could this be cause it is burning to hot cause its turned up???
Fuel turned up with no pyrometer, the glow plugs might look just like the pistons look.
yea the tips are melting right off
he bought thr truck turned up already w/NO pyrometer and hasnt installed one yet i told him he should when i got mine but no one listens to me.... so you think its burning too hot and the pistons are melting too?
If I remember right, glow plug tips are inconnel.
I know the pistons are hypereutectic aluminum.
Hypereutectic aluminum melts at 1250 degree.
Inconnel melts at 1270+, that is what a lot of turbo blades are made out of.
To much fuel, timing to advanced and not enough cool air can cause this.
A good pyrometer can be bought for under 200 dollars.
A good set of pistons are around 700 dollars and more parts are needed to change them as well as a lot of labor.
