I need to know how to get a Sony stero out. I bought a removal tool and there are no holes to use. It kinda looks like it just comes out but i dont know. I dont want to break anything. Im replacing it with a newer Sony with more options. They are almost exactly the same size so the new one should fit in the hole right? And the wiring harnesses are the same on all right? Thanks in advance for any help. It is greatly appreciated.
Usually the aftermarket radios come with their own removal tools
you have to pop off the outer trim cover, and insert them on the sides of the radio, then pull out...
if you dont have the radios removal tool, try sticking something else in there and get it to release, it will then slide right out, or should...
check the sides of the sony right under the trim ring. if you can see a chrome piece on each side that hold the trim on then you can push in on them and it will slide out. if there are no chrome clips on the sides then ya have the newer sonys and ya have to have the tool or something thin and wide to slide down each side of the radio..there are small grooves to slide them into.this will release the locking tabs on the sides.

have you removed the darker colored plastic sorround? the theives got mine twice within seconds. viper alarm going off and everything. anyways they removed the plastic cover thats around all instruments heater, speedo you know. just be carefull air bag shut off wires stay on till you remove switch. you should be able to see what your caught on.
At 4" it is likely the wiring catching something. Work it in and out and see if it comes loose, if not you will have to get behind there to free the wiring.

Can you pull the dash enough to get your hand in there to "feed" the wires out while you pull the stereo out? The dash on my '00 just pops free with a good pull....
The wiring harness should be the same and the stereo removal tools that come with the new radio should work for the old one as well. If you drop the glove box down i think you can snake your hand up behind the radio
in my excursion i could reach up fromthe bottom of the dash by the throttle pedal. my wires hung up on the tab at the bottom of the radio where the round bar runs through
