I have an 88 F250 with a 7.3. A while back my windshield washer quit working.
You can hear a whirring when you press the button, but nothing. I took the hose off the reservoir and blew through it, fluid came out the windshield end.
Is there anything obvious I should check ?
As an option, I have an '84 F250 6.9 parts truck. Would the pump or other parts swap over from it ?
Whatever the suggestion, how do I get to it and do it ?
Ford used the same washer pump for about 20 years or so. I think it is a C9 part number, so I think it fits vehicles from 1969 to the late 80's. I can't say for sure if yours is the one I am familiar with, but the ones I am thinking of are a small cylindrical pump that are moutned horizontally in the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir. They push in and are followed by a snap ring. To get it out you usually have to take the reservoir out and pry the pump out with plyers, but that usually destroys the pump. They're pretty cheap to replace, though. If you hear the pump whirring but no fluid then I'd imagine the small plastic pump vane came off of the motor shaft.
Thanks Guys, I just fixed the problem in 15 minutes. I swapped the whole reservoir, pump included, from my 84 parts truck to the 88. Now I can see again !
