Hypertech model 41012 vin locked
Step one: Open the Tuner use something to pry it open I used a nail file (Closet thing to me) and take out the board. You have your LCD which is detachable just pull it off.
Step Two: Get a wire I used the first thing i could find which was a speaker wire. Any gauge wire would work. So here was my idea if your fimilar with PCs and there Jumper method of erasing memory. Thats where i got this weird idea. Strip both ends and twist them so there like points.
Step Three: So If you were like me you were already impatient and just wanted something. So heres what i did i grabbed the wire with the Tuner plugged in via USB to give it power (Screen Still off). I touch the solder points of basically every resistor, coil, chip. So i basically ran through the entire motherboard and grabbed each end and rubbed it all over the board. I focused on the chips and ran the stripped wire up and down the chips connections i did the sides and then top and bottom vise versa trying to create a jump.
(You will feel minor shocks like you would expect but USB only gives out 3v so you wont die and if your worried take the proper time to be safe or whatever. I got some sparks from some of the resistors. By my mistake didnt do trial and error with this so i cant be certain what did the trick, i went ***** out and was just pissed. I shorted a coil and now my Tuner didnt turn on when i plugged it into the car. I got power when i used USB though. I tried updating it again after i was done to see if by some miracle it would update, i chose my v6 and pressed update and expected my stupid error like before and by my surprise it updated i was laughing. I took it to my car didn't turn on i shorted something but since i got power through usb i figure i would try powering it via usb and use the car connection to communicate with my PCM. Well i grabbed my PC, later my cellphone charger and powered it via usb and then connected it to my car and viola it worked! Set up like a brand new tuner didnt even say anything about the previous car bull**** vin lock.
This tuner is not that great to begin with but for $70 i thought it was a steal.
So if this helped you and worked please let me know how it worked and what you did diffrently! If you really excited it worked for you all i ask in return is for you to copy and paste this and post it in another forum so no one else has to search for hours looking for a last resort answer! ***** Y*u Hypertech you rip people off i hope this loses you some money!
I'm sure you realize you could have also ended up trashing your PCM (at least the program in it) and needing both a tow and a flash at the dealer.
Or even worse, a brand new PCM.
But as always, yer truck and yer money.
Just out of curiosity, how do you figure HyperTech is ripping people off? You bought a used, VIN locked programmer. How do they know you aren't just trying to tune your truck, your car, your buddy's truck, etc.?
Do you expect them to unlock it for free when you're not even the original owner?
FWIW, the HyperCrap isn't worth $70.
