changing solenoids on ranger

Im going to be changing my torque converter solenoid, lockup solenoid, and 3-4 shift solenoids this coming weekend. I know ill have to drop the pan, but are there any tips of tricks I should use? Im replacin these components because I got codes using the paper clip method and it mentioned these components.

Well, after getting it on the lift and getting showered again in ATF, I realized the electronic plug that goes into the body of the trans was just hanging and not plugged in!!!!!! I plugged er in, and VOILA! SHE SHIFTS! EXCEPT from 1 to 2. You must let off the gas, then it will shift. What the hell?

wow! Thats crazy...I think that goes by the akeems razor theory...simplest solution to the problem and all! Wonder if it will eventually work itself out with that 1-2 shift.

from wikipedia:

Occam's razor (sometimes spelled Ockham's razor) is a principle attributed to the 14th-century English logician and Franciscan friar William of Ockham. The principle states that the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the explanatory hypothesis or theory. The principle is often expressed in Latin as the lex parsimoniae ("law of parsimony" or "law of succinctness"): "entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem", or "entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity".

This is often paraphrased as "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best." In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities. It is in this sense that Occam's razor is usually understood.

Wow, never heard of that. However, what would cause the trans not to shift from 1 to 2?

If you haven't already done it, disconnect the B- battery cable for 20 minutes or so, to reset the drive train computer & erase trouble codes, as it might be in the "limp home mode", from the valve body electrical connector being disconnected.

Just a thought for pondering.

Yeah it has engine braking in 1st gear. I also disconnected the battery overnight and when I reconnected it the next morning, i drove with a super light foot to try and let it shift, and it did shift on its own once, and then it never did it again.
