I have a 1994 F-150 that had the transmission rebuilt just last year. It started to miss shifts and shift at wrong times. When I pulled the engine codes, the transmission solenoids were at fault. Naturally these components were not changed in the rebuild so were not covered under any warranty. My question is...Is it hard to replace these parts and is it possible to do without pulling the transmission? Im a true backyard mechanic but I am capable of performing most things short of pulling a tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
If you have an E4OD, it can be done w/ the transmission in the truck. Messy, but it can be done. You'll need a torque wrench that does 10 ft/lbs and a torx bit set, IIRC. You will need a large drain pan if your trans pan doesn't have a drain plug.
Did mine in my F250 HD 4X4 in an afternoon. Consuming 'adult beverages' caused the time to take so long.
should be a single set pack -that's how my 95 e250 was
one pack covers it all
drop pan unplug wire from top -unbolt pack -plug back in from top -install pan and fill --easy
Before turning any wrenches or buying parts give us the codes you received from the PCM. Way too many times someone has wasted their money on parts before fully researching what the problem really is.
well i was pulling the solenoid codes but when i went to check them again i got 121, 123 and 124. Not sure what 124 is but the 123 is the throttle position sensor. can this cause erratic shifting?
Ok I'm looking at a 93 with 351W and the E40D this thing won't go into 1st but will go into the remaining 3 gears and reverse could these Solenoid packs be the culprit or am I looking at a fried Tranny Assuming no metalic glitter in the fluid?????
P.S. sorry for the hyjack but it is a related question
