I've had my 2002 PSD for a year and a half and was sure that I read that the block heater was an option and only was installed on trucks in the far north. Thanks to you guys a just ran out and traced the wire and sure enough the plug was tied up right behind the tow hook. How embarrassing. It wouldn't start this morning in below zero wind chill and it's not supposed to get any warmer the next three days so what a relief! There were two days last winter it wouldn't start either.
The g/f thinks I'm nuts as her and the kids are already in bed and I'm out rolling around in the driveway.
Im doin that right now and am having problems finding my plug....any more help on finding this plug would be helpful, thanx.

Just look by your Oil Filter. If you see an electrical looking cord running just above the filter, trace it back to the beginning. I think it is orange in color and then changing to black.

My cord ran along the top of the frame forward and was covered by black plastic. The plug is black with a dust cap on it and was tied off right inside the bumper by the drivers side tow hook. Stick your finger in behind the tow hook and it's right there. After finding it, I can't believe I never saw it before.
Same temp this morning and it fired right up!

I had a question concerning the block heater on my 2000 F350. This winter i replaced my glow plug relay because i was having difficulty starting but as the weather got colder i tried to plug the block heater in and had no effect. The block heater worked great last winter so i traced the wires to the plug and could not see and shorts/breaks etc. so im led to believe the heater element itself is bad. Is there any way to check and if needed what is the process to replace.
I have a heat pump in my tin tunnel so I cant tell the difference in my electric bill, so I figure if I can save some fuel by cutting back my idling warm up time then I'm coming out ahead! Just my thoughts, dont know if I'm beating a dead horse or not though!
My plug was by my driver side tow hook. At first i couldn't find it, even after originally looking there but i did a little digging, getting cut up by my bumber a little, but there was the plug hidden up by the hook.
