Do all of the 7.3 motors have block heaters already in them and you just have to pyrchase the cord or is it an option that you have to purchase seperately?
best way to answer this is too look just to the right of the oil filter..maybe 2 inches away from the filter..there should be a orange cord if you already have a block heater..if not you should see ether a plug or the heating element with no cord right there..ill see if i can find you a picture of it..if there is a cord..look behind the bumper next to the driver side tow hook for the plug end..

Alright i found the cord and followed it to underneath my battery and i dont know where it goes from there. Is it going to the battery or am i looking for a plug that plugs into an outlet?
Nice man thanks, thats exactly where it was, zip tied to the rad support. Thanks everyone for the help.
Just think, I actually ordered mine with the block heater. I could have saves a few $$ by not ordering it and still had it. Too bad I did not know that back then.
alway's the best move..ask here before you spend..
Ain't that the truth brother!
I am sitting here puttering around the garage and figured I would changed the fuel filter and do the o-rings in the drain valve. I had a drip but it turned out to be the gasket on the fuel bowl lid (someone put it on upside down.... I would have never done something like that ...).
FWIW, 285/65/16 snow cables do NOT fit on 285/75/16 tires... Waiting for my snow cables to arrive at NAPA so I can head 5hrs north to camp....
The block heater heats up the block, which heats up the oil, coolant, etc.. and everything else in the engine. Diesel engines use the heat of compression to burn the fuel, and if the engine is extremely cold, the glow plugs alone may not be enough to get the incoming air charge up to temperature. The block heater keeps the engine warm, to help with starting. Depending on the ambient, I guess it could also help with getting heat inside the cab faster.
