I have a 150 with a 300 striaght six 4 speed. If i jack it up like a 4inch and put 33's on it what kind of gas milage do you think id get? and what kind of gas milage do you think i would get if i had the same thing only a 351 engine?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Feb-02 AT 08:22 PM (EST)]well...i really need some more information before I can offer any help. First, you need to set a base line for gas mileage; that is, what are you getting now with stock tires and no lift. chances are, the larger tires will increase your gas mileage as this will effectively give you a higher (lower numbers) gear ratio. In my experinence, the increased surface area of larger tires does not have enough impact on fuel economy to make a difference. The 4" lift will increase air resistance and I doubt it would make much difference (I don't have a lift, so i could be mistaken here).
As far as swapping to a 351, that is an entirely diffent project, independent of the lift and tires. The 351 would certainly deliver less gas mileage (don't really have any numbers, maybe 12/14 ?) You would certanly be quicker...but I wouldn't trash the 6 too soon...it's a great, reliable motor with lots of potential.
I have a 4 inch lift on my 300/6 and didnt notice much if a difference in mpg, i get about 15/16 mpg, lost maybe 1 wiht the lift. The tires will probably help your MPG unless you change the gears. It will allow your engine to run lower rpms, using less fuel, however, you will be slower then you used to be. If you find it to be a dog, you can change the gears to get your power back, but unless you have 3.08s you should be ok with 33s.
3.08s will probably make your truck a bit slower and not have much power on hills. Once you put the tires on there, i'd condider changing out your rear end gears. Keep in mind that its expensive though.
