My 92 f150 4.9 bucks while warming up and driving at a steady slow speed.Could the problem be the Engine Temperature Control sensor? Where is this sensor located? Please help before I get whiplash!

If the engine bucks & misses pretty much all the time then you need to have a look at the plugs , spark plug wires , cap , rotor etc . Have you checked for any Dtcodes ? The Ect wouldnt cause the problems you describe .

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I replaced the plugs twice,New wires,Cap and Rotor. It runs fine when I first take off cold for a mile or so, Than starts bucking and pretty much clears up when warm. Never get a check engine light.

Whats the status on the condition of your shocks, i had a similar problem and it was the shocks. When the engine warms up, it might just run alittle smoother and not cause as much bucking.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, and coming are some BFG MEATS

Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
92' Thunderbird 3.8L V-6 FOR SALE!
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter baby.

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L

The shocks are questionable and I plan on replacing them soon. What throws me is that it drives so smoothe the first mile or so in the morning.

Youre going to have to explain how shock absorbers can affect the way an engine runs .... I missed that class .

Did this problem begin when you replaced the plugs , wires etc ? What brand of parts did you use ? How many miles on your truck ? If all the secondary ignition check out Ok , Get a reading on the fuel pressure , Check for vacuum or intake leaks . Check the Ecu for any trouble codes .

The truck has 101,000 miles on it. The problem was inherited when I bought it. The plugs are autolite platinums, The rest of the components are Wells. I was unable to locate any vacuum leaks. The other day it was really cold up here outside and the problem did not go away as it usually does after the engine is up to temperature.

The old '79 has the Ported Vacuum Switch in the coolant elbow, I'm sure yours is in the vicinity of the coolant elbow - but...I think ..since the problem occurs when the engine has warmed, some sort of advance/retard is being directed towards the distributer. Usually bucking is sign of ignition problems as Paul is leaning towards. You got to figure out what happens (with regards to ignition timing) when the engine reaches temp. Does it do this at all RPM ranges, including idle?

I just reread this ... Wells ? I seem to recall Walmarket sells this line . That engine doesnt call for or need platinum spark plugs , Install the Motorcraft Plugs BSF 44C , Same goes for the rest of the secondary ignition parts . It sounds like the previous owner did his tune up shopping at the Wal Market . They have good deals on toilet paper & toothpaste , Tune up items for your truck , thats questionable .

Paul, I took your advice and went with the Motorcraft plugs. I couldn't find the Motorcraft wires in my area so I went with a good set of Bosch wires. The performance has improved a whole bunch and the bucking is still there but not nearly as noticeable. I can live with it now. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work!
